Inaugural Neighborhood Harvest Meal
Fresh Future Farm
Saturday, November 18 from
Noon – 3 p.m.
2008 Success Street in N. Charleston

We hope you will join the extended Fresh Future Farm community for a fun fundraiser feast!

FFF-harvest-details

The first harvest meal is all about oysters, chili (with and without meat), delicious sides, desserts and two varieties of farm fresh herbal drinks.

We are inviting Chicora-Cherokee residents, FFF volunteers, shoppers and supporters, community and elected officials to “break bread” together and learn more about our progress and ways that friends can become engaged in helping FFF grow. There will be a suggested $20 donation for diners. We’ll have music, board games and auction items to keep visitors engaged and mingling. We’ll post regular updates of auction items.

Organizer of FFF Inaugural Neighborhood Harvest Meal

Fresh Future Farm employs permaculture practices. Permaculture is a design science with key goals which include care for earth, care for people and sharing the surplus. One main thought process in the permaculture model is that the problem is the solution. In our case, if people who live in a food desert have limited access to food and quality jobs we train and hire people to grow and sell food where it is needed most.

Another key principle in permaculture is stacking functions (multi-tasking) so that every feature of our operation serves multiple purposes. Not only do we sell quality foods, but we also created an oasis on a vacant city lot that has attracted frogs, dragonflies, butterflies, bees, spiders and lizards back to our space. Our farming techniques remediate the soil from the top down and aid in the absorption of massive amounts of rain water – our crops have not flooded/been contaminated by flood water despite two years of extreme rain events.

By the end of the year we hope to add a pavilion, greenhouse and mobile incubator kitchen and promote our space as an educational and special event venue. When our infrastructure is complete, we can hire and train more full-time and part-time employees from the community and expand our farming, food and green job opportunities. Community economic empowerment has a beautiful ring to it:)
