<\/a><\/div>\nMembers of the greater Charleston community are invited to \u201cOne Big Gathering Under the Tree,\u201d<\/b> a celebration in honor of the Angel Oak.<\/p>\n
Organized by the Lowcountry Open Land Trust<\/a> (LOLT) in cooperation with numerous Johns Island congregations, schools and civic organizations, the Fellowship Dinner will occur from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 3. The intention is to honor the tree\u2019s legacy as a place of spiritual power, cultural history and unity. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish or a dessert to share; admission is free of charge.<\/b><\/p>\n The event is part of the Preserve Angel Oak campaign launched in July to secure 17 acres of rural land adjacent to the ancient live oak tree. To date, nearly 10,000 individuals worldwide have donated funds to the campaign. Private enterprises including Blackbaud and Piggly Wiggly have helped, as have non-profits including the Historic Charleston Foundation, among others.<\/p>\n \u201cThe outpouring of support for the Angel Oak has been nothing short of extraordinary,\u201d said Elizabeth Hagood, LOLT Executive Director. \u201cWith this fellowship dinner, we are providing the members of this community an opportunity to meet and break bread together in celebration and honor of the tree.\u201d<\/p>\n The afternoon will feature art of the Angel Oak created by students from Haut Gap Middle, Charleston Collegiate, Angel Oak Elementary, Frierson and Mount Zion schools. Parking will be available at St. John\u2019s Episcopal Church and Haut Gap schools.<\/p>\n Guests are encouraged upload existing photos or those taken during the Fellowship dinner and post them on Instagram using #PreserveAngelOak. Photos will help supporters far and wide share in the celebration.<\/p>\n In addition to acquiring the first 17 acres, LOLT hopes to collaborate with the developers of the second 17-acre parcel for a conservation outcome.
