{"id":218,"date":"2013-09-13T12:30:00","date_gmt":"2013-09-13T12:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/growpurpose.com\/charlestongood\/?p=218"},"modified":"2013-09-13T12:30:00","modified_gmt":"2013-09-13T12:30:00","slug":"day-of-caring-highlight-lending-a-hand-where-it-is-needed-most","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/growpurpose.com\/charlestongood\/day-of-caring-highlight-lending-a-hand-where-it-is-needed-most\/","title":{"rendered":"Day of Caring Highlight: Lending a Hand Where it is Needed Most"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><\/span><b>Trident United Way&#8217;s Day of Caring volunteers from MWV Specialty Chemicals are making bold community change where it matters.<\/b><i><br \/><\/i><\/p>\n<div><b><br \/><\/b><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 14px;\">Teams of employees from MeadWestvaco&#8217;s<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 14px;\"> Specialty Chemical Division<b>&nbsp;<\/b>will be joining with hundreds of other volunteers from area businesses today to lead the way on <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 14px;\">this year&#8217;s event.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 14px;\">MWV has<b>&nbsp;<\/b>partnered  with two great organizations in the community, Metanoia and the  Charleston Promise Neighborhood (CPN). Notable service projects include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 14px;\"><b>Charleston Promise Neighborhood<\/b> &#8211; volunteers<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 14px;\">&nbsp;will&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 14px;\">engage students in \u201ccollege chats\u201d and casual conversations about following your dreams. This project&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 14px;\">focuses  on raising the bar for learning, increasing college awareness, and  sharing personal educational journeys with elementary school students.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 14px;\"><b>Metanoia<\/b>  \u2013 MWV volunteers will be putting an initial coat of paint on the  interior of Metanoia\u2019s new Youth Entrepreneurship and Volunteer Center  as well as painting a home Metanoia is renovating through its housing  program.&nbsp;&nbsp;They will also work at the Chicora Place community garden that  Metanoia sponsors constructing an<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 14px;\">&nbsp;outdoor masonry stove made out of concrete blocks and firebricks that can be used for baking, grilling, cooking, and smoking.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 14px;\">Since  2008 MWV has been a part of Trident United Way\u2019s Day of Caring and for  over 10 years they have held a partnership with Metanoia. This year is  particularly a special year as volunteers are putting the final touches  on Metanoia&#8217;s Youth Entrepreneurship and Volunteer Center which MWV  helped fund with a grant of $150,000 in May of 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 14px;\">\u201cWe  are looking forward to a rewarding day sharing talent and resources to  improve our community!
