Please join us as we celebrate Lowcountry arts, history and culture in recognition of the holiday that honors the end of slavery in the United States, Juneteenth.<\/b><\/p>\n

Monday, June 17 at 11 a.m. <\/b>
Countdown to Juneteenth: African Mask-Making Workshop (ages 7-18)
Christine King Mitchell educates young people about African cultures and their connection to the Lowcountry. Participants will decorate masks with common items and art supplies. Registration begins June 3. Space is limited.<\/p>\n

Countdown to Juneteenth: African Drumming Workshop (ages 7 and up)
Master drummer Bob Smalls leads this hands-on workshop, encouraging participants to listen and create their
own music.<\/p>\n

Cultural Artists\u2019 Meet and Greet featuring Bro. Nizar (all ages)
View the work of Gullah Cultural artist Bro. Nizar. His collection of paintings tells the story of the Gullah history, culture and people.<\/p>\n

Countdown to Juneteenth: Middle Passage Connections (teens & adults)
Take part in a discussion of slavery with Azikiwe Chandler, chair of the Charleston Remembrance Committee, and pay
homage to the millions of enslaved Africans who perished in the Middle Passage. Thomalind Martin Polite, a seventh
generation descendant of a Middle Passage survivor who arrived in South Carolina in 1756, also speaks. A portion of the
documentary Priscilla\u2019s Homecoming will be shown.<\/p>\n

View the digital exhibit of photographer and videographer, Bill Bryant. A professional artist for more than 30
years, his work includes creative advertising, computer graphics and fashion photography.<\/p>\n

Enjoy a panel discussion about the holiday with guest panelists Dr. Ade Ofunniyin, anthropologist and grandson of the legendary Phillip Simmons; Ramona La Roche, artist and educator; and Ethel Taylor, president of the Lowcountry Juneteenth Association.<\/p>\n
