And a large number of those lots are in the same neighborhoods referred to as &#8220;food deserts.&#8221; Guerilla gardener, Ron Finley, sees these lots as opportunities rather than eyesores. Urban community gardens have the potential to improve access to healthy food as well as to educate and engage youth in empowering ways.<\/p>\n<p>As he puts it, &#8220;If kids grow kale, they eat kale.
