{"id":3591,"date":"2016-03-03T05:30:03","date_gmt":"2016-03-03T10:30:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/growpurpose.com\/charlestongood\/?p=3591"},"modified":"2016-02-29T16:51:35","modified_gmt":"2016-02-29T21:51:35","slug":"community-kiosk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/growpurpose.com\/charlestongood\/community-kiosk\/","title":{"rendered":"Have You Heard About&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Have you heard about&#8230;<\/p>\n<h3>Enough Pie&#8217;s New Community Kiosk?<\/h3>\n<blockquote><p>Enough Pie\u2019s most recent UP-Start\u00a0grant award went to\u00a0Pamela Simons\u00a0for her idea for\u00a0artful,\u00a0community-centric kiosks in the\u00a0Upper Peninsula where neighbors and organizations\u00a0can share\u00a0key\u00a0information for residents, businesses and passerbys.\u00a0The goal is to offer\u00a0news pertinent to the neighborhood that is not computer or web dependent, but is on the ground at\u00a0street level for increased community engagement and connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>The first community kiosk is underway at\u00a0the intersection of Meeting, Morrison, and Mount Pleasant Streets in the Upper Peninsula and\u00a0will be complete by the end of February, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Affectionately referred to as \u201cMeetin\u2019 UP\u201d \u2014 the community kiosk is a hollow triangle about 8 feet tall designed by Charleston architect Aaron Bowman. Its three sides have different functions \u2014 to communicate, to share information, and to offer books. The \u201cFree Little Library\u201d (a first in the Upper Peninsula) features\u00a0nine themed\u00a0mailboxes for\u00a0newsletters, books, and community fliers. The second side has cork board for posting signs and fliers, and the third side is a chalkboard for aspiring artists or\u00a0hand-written notes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2187 size-medium aligncenter lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/enoughpie.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/10am-214x285.jpeg\" alt=\"10am\" width=\"214\" height=\"285\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 214px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 214\/285;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The kiosk will permanently feature\u00a0helpful neighborhood and City\u00a0information, like when your monthly Neighborhood Association meeting is, who to call if your landlord skimps on heat and who your\u00a0City Councilmember is. Civics 101!<\/p>\n<p>The team includes\u00a0Charleston architect Aaron Bowman,\u00a0designer and builder Paul Gibson\u00a0of\u00a0Cline Homes,\u00a0Charlie Letts, a regular volunteer builder for Enough Pie and a nearby resident in North Central, and Chandler Threatt, a West Ashley High School sophomore who volunteered to be sous-carpenter. Once the structure was built, the EP Team with Pamela Simons painted it, and Brittany Bates hand painted\u00a0the signage and lettering.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2190 size-medium aligncenter lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/enoughpie.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Kiosk-214x285.jpg\" alt=\"Kiosk\" width=\"214\" height=\"285\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 214px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 214\/285;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The kiosk is almost complete!<\/strong> Now, we are eager to keep the new <a href=\"http:\/\/littlefreelibrary.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">FREE LITTLE LIBRARY<\/a>\u00a0mailboxes stocked with plenty of books.
