Leah Su\u00e1rez, one of Charleston’s premier vocalists, will lead her jazz ensemble in A Celebration of Women in Jazz on campus at The Citadel, Tuesday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. In honor of Women’s History Month, this special evening concert will pay homage to key women who have made significant contributions to the formation and progression of America’s unique art form.<\/p>\n

Music selections for this program will include dedications to female artists such as Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Mary Lou Williams, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Elis Regina, Melba Liston, Anita O’Day, Betty Carter, Shirley Horne and more. The evening will feature a range and mix of styles, from blues to swing, bebop to bossa nova and bolero to contemporary and fusion. Leah will also debut her new composition for its world premiere, commissioned by The Citadel for this event, in honor of Women’s History Month.

This event is $5 general admission and free with Citadel ID.<\/p>\n

VIP tickets are $45 which include reserved front row seating, a personalized CD, and a wine and cheese reception with Leah and the musicians after the concert.<\/p>\n
