{"id":7052,"date":"2017-06-26T08:00:27","date_gmt":"2017-06-26T12:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/growpurpose.com\/charlestongood\/?p=7052"},"modified":"2017-06-24T14:26:50","modified_gmt":"2017-06-24T18:26:50","slug":"jul-1-5th-annual-history-fair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/growpurpose.com\/charlestongood\/jul-1-5th-annual-history-fair\/","title":{"rendered":"Jul 1 &#8211; 5th Annual History Fair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>5th Annual History Fair<br \/>\nJuly 1<br \/>\n10 AM &#8211; 3 PM<br \/>\nMagnolia Plantation and Gardens<br \/>\n3550 Ashley River Rd, Charleston, S29414 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">More than 30 historic organizations in the Lowcountry will participate during the 5th Annual History Fair at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens on Saturday, July 1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">The History Fair will showcase well-known organizations in education, religion, social services, the arts and tourism, including the Cannon Street Ymca , the oldest continuously operating Y in the United States. Magnolia will be joined by its Ashley River neighbor Drayton Hall under the banner of the Historic Ashley River Plantation District.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the public will have an opportunity to meet representatives of the historic groups. The event is designed for amateur and serious historians and children who want to touch the past. At 11:30 a.m., Wona Womalan will present traditional Guinean history and culture through authentic West African dancing, drumming and songs. The History Fair exhibits are free to attend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Basic garden admission is required to see the gardens ($20\/adults, $10\/children ages 6-12 and children under 6 are free). Guests who purchase garden admission will be treated to special programming, including a storyteller, brick-making demonstration and access to a living history program. \u201cLiving History Through the Eyes of the Enslaved,\u201d an outreach of the The Slave Dwelling Project founded by Joseph McGill, Magnolia\u2019s history consultant. Living History will present blacksmith, storytellers and cooking demonstrations.
