Nelson B. Rivers, III &amp; Judge Alex Sanders. \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Charleston\u2019s civil rights leaders, Reverend Nelson B. Rivers, III and Judge Alex Sanders return to share stories, answer questions, and suggest steps to create a just, equitable, and thriving community where all people of all races are empowered to fulfill their potential. This gathering continues the Sophia Institute\u2019s\u00a0<i>SJRE Collaborative\u2019s Living Your Truth<\/i>\u00a0Series to educate, challenge, and foster new understanding.<\/p>\n<p>At their first Living Your Truth conversation in May 2017, Rev. Rivers is the Pastor of Charity Missionary Baptist Church in the Liberty Hill Community of North Charleston, SC and the Vice President of Religious Affairs and External Relations of the National Action Network. He worked at every level of the NAACP and helped to elect more than 300 black officials in South Carolina. He was a lead organizer of the 2000 March on the Statehouse to demand the removal of the Confederate Battle Flag and was a founding member of the Charleston Area Justice Ministry in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The 19th President of the College of Charleston, Judge Alex Sanders currently teaches in the University\u2019s Department of political science.
