ABOUT FRESH FUTURE FARM<\/p>\n

When Fresh Future Farm (FFF) officially breaks ground this coming winter, it is destined to bring a unique perspective to the local food movement, both in the Lowcountry and around the region. As an emerging urban farm, brick and mortar market, community kitchen and educational center in North Charleston, FFF will make a huge impact on a number of levels.<\/p>\n

By providing access to fresh food in what is commonly referred to as a “food desert,” Fresh Future Farm will be addressing an important local problem. FFF will also support micro-entrepreneurial opportunities by educating local farmers as well as homegrown food operations, both with their store and their commercial kitchen and cannery which will be established in stages as their business grows.<\/p>\n

But the farm’s reach will extend far beyond North Charleston. Fresh Future Farm is partnering with Will Allen and Growing Power, a national nonprofit that has developed a blueprint for creating profitable farming operations using abandoned urban landscapes to provide both food and jobs where they are needed most. Growing Power will also be serving as FFF’s fiscal sponsor to support the farm’s immediate fundraising and start-up needs. FFF has a long term goal of deepening its relationship with Growing Power as a place-based Regional Outreach Training Center for new and established farmers and food entrepreneurs throughout the Southeast.<\/p>\n

ABOUT GERMAINE
Fresh Future Farm’s founder and future Farm and Market Manager is Germaine Jenkins. She has done incredible work growing food and relationships throughout the community that surrounds Chicora Place Community Garden. Serving as Metanoia’s Community Garden Coordinator, Germaine has partnered with residents, businesses, college and church volunteers and others to transform a former trailer park into the vibrant community garden and playground it is today. Germaine has also run an edible landscaping business.<\/p>\n

It was the South Carolina Community Loan Fund’s innovative Healthy Food Retail Business Plan Challenge that offered Germaine the opportunity to ramp up her entrepreneurial efforts and apply best practice models to address societal issues that challenge her community. As the business grows, she will focus on training and employing neighboring residents to build the FFF brand. When you combine Germaine’s passion for sharing knowledge with people, growing healthy food, and helping her community develop in positive ways, it is easy to see that Fresh Future Farm is the logical next step for this community-driven urban ag lover and businessperson.<\/p>\n
