This bilingual call for action in the face of a “Code Red for Humanity/código rojo para la humanidad” puts responsibility for solving the climate crisis squarely on our shoulders. It’s in our hands. Will we rise to the occasion?
“Dentro de 30 años, los libros de historia marcarán el 9 de agosto de 2021 como fecha crucial en la lucha contra la crisis climática.
Ese día, el Panel Intergubernamental sobre Cambio Climático de la ONU (PICC) emitió un histórico reporte científico que dejó atrás cualquier duda o especulación sobre la gravedad y el origen de la crisis existencial que todos enfrentamos. Esencialmente, el informe, el primero desde 2013, concluyó que la actividad humana está cambiando el clima del planeta con consecuencias sin precedentes e irreversibles, y estas consecuencias impactan desproporcionadamente a comunidades de bajos ingresos y de color, como nosotros los latinos.
Advirtiendo que es “inequívoco” que la crisis climática es obra del ser humano, el secretario general de la ONU, António Guterres, calificó el informe de “código rojo para la humanidad”.
In 30 years, history books will mention August 9, 2021 as a crucial date in the fight against the climate crisis.
That day, the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a landmark science report that debunked once and for all any doubt or speculation about the severity or the origin of the existential crisis we all confront. Essentially, the report—the first of its class since 2013—concluded that human activity is changing the planet’s climate with unprecedented and irreversible consequences, which disproportionately impact low-income and communities of color, such as us Latinos.
Warning that it is “unequivocal” that the climate crisis is driven by humans, UN Secretary General António Guterres called the report “a code red for humanity.”
