Germaine Jenkins Reflects on Eight Years of Food Justice in North Charleston

From our friends at Fresh Future Farm…

Back in 2014, we invested 1/3 of our family’s tax refund to start Fresh Future Farm. I was certain that the people in my community had the common sense and ability to disrupt the stress and uncertainty we face by taking control of our food system. Each little win would have a ripple effect leading us closer to liberation.

Heck, we had proof (and a great confidence builder) from the simple work we did to transform our yard in our backyard North Charleston homestead.

Eight years later it’s crystal clear that food justice work is the most accessible road to attaining overall social justice. Despite the challenges, we are building the foundation for a just food system with a lot of help from our friends in South Carolina and across the country.
