LOWCOUNTRY LAND TRUST TO HOST POLLINATOR PALOOZA FOR NATIONAL POLLINATOR WEEK

In honor of National Pollinator Week, Lowcountry Land Trust, in partnership with The Bee Cause Project, Mount Pleasant Waterworks, Roots & Shoots Nursery, and the Tri-County Master Gardeners, will host a Pollinator Palooza at Marsh View Trail in Mount Pleasant. The free, family-friendly event will take place on June 21, 2023 from 10 am to 2 pm, and guests are welcome to drop in at their leisure.

Pollinator Palooza guests will learn about the native plants and gardening practices that support local pollinators and can expect to enjoy pollinator-themed activities such as creating wildflower seed balls and tasting honey, thanks to The Bee Cause Project. Popular local nursery Roots and Shoots will also be on-site helping volunteers tend to the pollinator garden and plant newly donated natives. Mount Pleasant Waterworks will demonstrate the importance of water quality and runoff and teach guests how to use the right amount of water for their lawns using the tuna can trick. Kids can spend time crafting by repurposing bottle caps to make pollinator magnets, and adults can bring three cups of dry soil from their yard to be tested by the Tri-County Master Gardeners. King of Pops will also be in attendance serving up cold popsicle treats.
In 2012, author Mary Alice Monroe, Mount Pleasant Waterworks, the Town of Mount Pleasant, and East Cooper Land Trust, now Lowcountry Land Trust, created the pollinator garden along Marsh View Trail – a public property protected via conservation easement. Many volunteers have worked to maintain the Marsh View Trail pollinator garden over the years, including Jackie Ashbaugh, Suzanne Kennerty, members of the Alhambra Garden Club, community members, and Tri-County Master Gardeners.
Lowcountry Land Trust looks forward to highlighting the importance of native plants and the pollinators they serve among conserved public land in the heart of Mount Pleasant. To access the pollinator garden at Marsh View Trail, direct your GPS to 1619 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. Between Mount Pleasant Waterworks and Whiteside Elementary School, turn onto Fred McKay Way. Near the baseball field, there is a marked entrance to Marsh View Trail. Walk approximately 100 yards along the trail to access the Pollinator Palooza!
