Parks for Pollinators 2022 – Charleston BioBlitz

SEP 3: Parks for Pollinators Bioblitz

From our friends at Keep Charleston Beautiful…

Join Keep Charleston Beautiful and the City of Charleston Parks Department for our BioBlitz event in Hampton Park on September 3rd! We are inviting our community members to join us in this national campaign to get people out into our parks and raise awareness and education about the importance of pollinators. In addition to being a fun way to connect with the community, the data you help us collect will capture a snapshot of the wildlife in your parks and across the country.
Volunteer participants will be utilizing smart phones and the iNaturalist app to help us catalog pollinator species and plants within our park. Participants will use the app to take pictures of plants, insects and animals to see what wildlife is present in the park on the day of the event and provide the park system with more information about local pollinators, which are essential to our ecosystem. Hampton Park is a handicap accessible location, and has available parking for the event.
Keep Charleston Beautiful will be using the data from the event to create an inventory of the species (pollinators and plants) found in our local parks. This year we will be focusing on one of our largest City parks, Hampton Park. This public assessment will be a valuable tool to help us better manage our open spaces and help us create future management plans. As a Bee City USA Affiliate, one of our missions is to help protect pollinator species and create additional pollinator habitat.
So come join us on September 3rd, explore your park, and see how many pollinators and pollinator-friendly plants you can find. We will have a prize for the participant who finds the most species during the BioBlitz!
