I wrote a newsletter last September, published under the headline “Trump Is Heading for a Fall,” that predicted that he would fall and his fall would be like Humpty Dumpty’s: sudden and irreparable.
It seems very possible, even very likely, that Trump’s fall has begun. The tipping point appears to have started when Trump’s goons murdered two peaceful people, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, but Trump sealed it with that thoroughly despicable AI-generated image he posted of the Obamas’ heads attached to the bodies of apes. He seems to be in freefall now, and soon he will splat.
It is happening. Democrats have won impressive victories, sometimes stunning victories, in every election that’s been held since Trump took office, including two as late as last weekend. And all the polls continue to be in lockstep with that voting. Last month, when pollsters from The Economist/YouGov, FOX News and The New York Times/Siena asked voters whom they plan to back in this year’s midterms, Democrats regularly had the advantage. A Marist poll showed that 65 percent of Americans think that ICE has gone too far in enforcing immigration laws. The Washington Post averaged 10 national polls that were taken this year discovered that voters give Democrats a five percentage point advantage. None of that bodes well for Trump for the upcoming midterms.
And those polls were taken before the Epstein files were released that seem to place Trump in horribly salacious scenes, before he posted that disgraceful depiction of the Obamas that backfired so harshly in his face, and before the meaning of those twin murders in Minneapolis had sunken into the nation’s consciousness. Oh, yes, it appears Trump will soon splat.
And he knows it. He can read the elections’ meanings and the unanimity of the polls as well as you and I can. But that is both good news and bad news. It’s good news because it means he will be impeached soon, certainly as soon as the new Congress begins, and possibly even before then. But it’s bad news because he knows his days in office are limited, and a wounded animal is a dangerous animal. It’s why he has suddenly begun trying to rig the midterm elections.
Yes, rig them. Look at him. He has been screaming for years, without offering a shred of evidence, that the 2020 presidential election was rigged, and now he is openly and blatantly trying to rig the 2026 midterms. How could a person be more hypocritical than that?
Since day one of his second term, Trump has attempted to rewrite election rules to burden voters and usurp control of election systems, targeted and threatened election officials and others who keep elections free and fair, supported people who undermine election administration, and retreated from the federal government’s role of protecting voters and the electoral process. He is pressuring selected legislatures to gerrymander their states to assure Republicans will win.
He wants to “nationalize” elections and put Republicans (him) in charge of running them, eliminate mail-in voting, shorten the time early voting is allowed, and make everyone produce a birth certificate or a passport before they can vote or register to vote. Half of Americans don’t have a passport, others don’t have their birth certificates, and the names of married women who took their husbands’ last names and transgender Americans would not match their birth certificates. The bill also calls for state officials to purge voter rolls. All these groups tend to vote for Democrats, and the Brennan Center for Justice found that if these measures are adopted, about 21 million Americans – again, mostly Democrats — could lose their votes.
Trump has hinted he might “surround the polls” with ICE agents in November’s midterms. He’s even mentioned that he regrets not having National Guards “seize” ballot boxes in select precincts . And all that came shortly after FBI agents — accompanied by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard — raided election facilities in Fulton County, Georgia, and seized ballots and other materials from the 2020 election that Trump lost to Joe Biden.
So we cannot put it past Trump to do everything he can upset the midterms, even on election day. He will have everything to gain and nothing to lose.
Our best hope is to get him out of office before the midterms, and that means we must impeach him now. Don’t wait until the Democrats to regain control of Congress. Do it now. Even if the Senate fails to convict him, it will put those voting for him on the side of a murderer, a probable child rapist, a person who has been convicted of sexually abusing a woman in such a way the judge said it was rape, a dictator wannabe, a KKK-worthy racist, a cheater, an elections fixer, a congenital liar, a hypocrite supreme, et cetera.
Impeachment also would give Republican senators an offramp, a way to get Trump off their backs in time for the midterms. Trump has become more of an albatross than a help to them, and with an impeachment they could safely dump him, join the resistance, and maybe retain their seats in Congress. Remember: every House member and 34 senators are up for reelection in November.
So yes, King Don the Evil is falling from his perch just as Humpty Dumpty fell from his. And he’s going to splat just as nicely.
