Minutes after Donald Trump was shot, the MAGA world was flooded with claims that Joe Biden ordered the assassination attempt and God saved him from it.
Listen to them:
U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C.: “If you didn’t believe in miracles before Saturday, you better be believing right now. Our God still saves, he still delivers and he still sets free. Because on Saturday, the devil came to Pennsylvania holding a rifle. But an American lion got back up on his feet and he roared.”
Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., called for a Republican district attorney to “immediately file charges against Joseph R. Biden for inciting an assassination … Joe Biden sent the orders.”
Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, Donald Trump’s choice for his vice president: “The “central premise of the Biden campaign is that President (sic) Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President (sic again) Trump’s attempted assassination.”
Two words come to mind: Hypocrisy and Ignorance.
No, make that four words: Monstrous Hypocrisy and Stupendous Ignorance.
Begin with Monstrous Hypocrisy. Listen to what MAGA’s minions said long before that 20-year-old kid shot Trump.Trump himself suggested in 2016 that “Second Amendment people” could prevent Hillary Clinton from appointing judges.
Trump’s son Donald Junior once reposted an image of Biden bound and gagged in the back of a pickup truck.
A Kansas Republican Party fundraiser last April allowed people who donated money to kick and punch an effigy of President Biden.
Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson of North Carolina, who is running for governor and was chosen to speak at the Republican National Convention, said less than a month ago that “Some folks need killing. It’s time for somebody to say it.”
And the MAGA minions say Biden is causing this turn toward violence? See what I mean by Monstrous Hypocrisy?
I’m surprised that Maga minions aren’t blaming Biden for Iran’s recently discovered plan to kill Trump. (By the way, did any of those MAGA minions mention that it was Biden’s people who discovered that plot and warned Trump about it, and thank them for it? Of course not.)
Before we leave the discussion of hypocrisy, which is saturating the Christian Nationalist wing of the MAGA Party, remember this: While Jesus was here, he directed his harshest words at hypocrites. He despised hypocrites more than anyone else on Earth. (Are you listening, Christian Nationalists?)
But enough about Monstrous Hypocrisy. Let’s talk about Stupendous Ignorance for a moment.
Reporters on the floor of the Republican National Convention said it was hard to find any delegate who wasn’t crediting God for saving Trump’s life. Frankly, I find that nauseating.
Several years ago, a friend of mine was backing his car out of the driveway. He did not know his young daughter was playing in the driveway, and he did not see her. He ran over her and killed her. If God saved Trump, then he also could have saved my friend’s daughter. Doesn’t it stand to reason that if God saved Trump, he murdered my friend’s daughter?
Or how about these official statistics: 8,656 persons were murdered in 2023, 68,387 women were raped and 40,990 persons were killed in traffic accidents. Do you really think God protected Trump but ignored all those other victims. Really?
Of course not. God didn’t protect Trump. Lady Luck did. But apparently that’s what all those Christian Nationalists at the RNC believe. See what I mean Stupendous Ignorance?
But this is what we’re up against, a person (I cannot call him a man) who has called for the mass deportation of 10 million immigrants (although doing so would destroy our economy), the ”termination of the Constitution,” and the jailing and prosecution of his political opponents. He paid a porn star with whom he had a sexual encounter to keep silent about it. A jury of his peers convicted him of being a sexual abuser, but the judge said it was rape. Trump incited, then excused, condoned and praised the violent insurrectionists who tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power. He faces more than 50 other felony charges. And on. And on. And on.
And despite all that, this is the person that half of America wants to be our next president. Unbelievable!
We cannot – we must not — let this happen.
For starters, we can ignore the RNC’s platform, even though it was largely written to mimic Trump’s desires. Once Trump is in office he will ignore it and stick with Project 2025.
Polls show that 70 percent of Americans don’t know what Project 2025 is, but it is the most horrifying plan for running an American government that has ever been written, and if Trump is elected he will follow that project. He has in effect said so. I posted a synopsis of that plan last April 15, which included Trump’s words that supported it. If you didn’t read it, or even if you did, please click on Danger Ahead: Project 2025 and forward it to anyone you know who might need to read it or might already know it but might forward it to others.
And please, above all else, vote the entire ticket in November. Not just for president but for the entire Democratic ticket. Voting has never been more important.
We will win this thing.
