The Many Meanings of Maga

The Many Meanings of Maga

A few days ago, a friend showed me something that I had never thought about: what the word “maga” means in various foreign languages. When I saw the list I knew I had to share it with you. It’s too good not to share. Even if you’ve seen it before it’s worth seeing again.

Maga is a real word in several languages, and the definition of maga in those languages paints a lovely portrait of Donald Trump. Had Trump known what maga means in those languages, he never would have adopted a slogan that carries the acronym MAGA. But he did adopt one, and it’s too late for him to back out now.

By the way, these definitions have been fact-checked by Scopes, the fact-checking service, and Scopes attests to their accuracy.

One more thing. Just for the fun of it, you may want to read slowly these examples of how different countries define the word “maga”, and, as you do, imagine what a person who speaks only that language must be thinking as she/he stares at a photograph of Donald Trump wearing a MAGA cap.

Keep that picture in mind as you read these countries and their definitions of the word “maga”, and don’t resist smiling. Here they are:

Japan: wicked, evil, calamity, disaster.

Nigeria: a slang word for a sucker, fraud victim, or an easily fooled idiot.

South Africa: lies.

Western Java in Indonesia: dragon (Sundanese language).

Italy: sorceress and female magician.

Portugal: sorceress, magician, wizard.

In Spanish maga means magician. In Latin it translates as witch.

And, my personal favorite, maga is the name for the highest rank in The Church of Satan.

Hope you enjoyed that as much as I did.

Happy Christmas, everybody!
