Keep the Focus on EPSTEIN

Donald Trump is doing everything he can to detract us from Jeffrey Epstein’s files. It is crucial that we not let that happen.

We do not know what the Epstein files contain, but we know a lot that points to what those files could and probably do contain.

We know that for many years Epstein seduced and pimped for hundreds of underage girls, some as young as 14, and kept records of names, dates and places, including a list of his clients. We also know that he and Trump were close friends who often participated together in “raucous” parties, and we know Trump’s name appears “multiple times” in those files. Tellingly, we also know that Trump is doing everything in his power to keep those files secret and get our minds off of them – this, after solemnly promising during his campaign he would release the files if he became president.

Everything points to the real possibility that Donald Trump either seduced young girls like his best friend Epstein so often did, or he knew what Epstein was doing and did nothing about it, which to my mind is almost as bad. Either way, he ought to be put out on the street, in prison, whatever, but gone from the White House.

And so We the People must see those files. We have the right to see them and the need to see them, and we must see them because if they show that Trump participated in Epstein’s lifestyle, that should be more than enough to get rid of him. God help us if we have sunken so low that we would let a monster like that remain the President of the United States of America.

But we also need to see the files to know if they exonerate him or even reduce our reasons for suspecting him. We also need to know if there are other pedophiles in government so we can get rid of them too. We should not care who they are, what party, what religion, what anything. If there are pedophiles in our government, get rid of them.

Again, either way, We the People have a need and a right to see those files, and we will see them. We have a lot working for us.

For one thing, seven Democrats on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee have asked the Department of Justice to provide whatever files it has on Epstein, and the law stipulates that the agency “shall” comply. We know the DOJ won’t comply, but the Democrats will sue, and it will be interesting to see how the Department of Justice protects men who have been seducing children.
Also, somebody in Washington has access to those files, and every Washington news reporter worth his salt is working every contact he has to find them. Sooner or later, one way or the other, the dam will break and we will all know the truth.

It would seem Trump would want those files released unless he knows they convict him, but he isn’t seeking that. Quite the opposite, he’s doing everything he can think of to get our minds off them and keep them secret.

But his efforts to guide our attention away from the Epstein files are so pathetic they are laughable.

One of my favorite examples happened a few days ago when Trump announced he had ordered two nuclear submarines to move closer to Russia, a move so scary sounding that it might get our minds off Epstein — if it were true. But military sources say it doesn’t make sense. They explain that all our submarines are nuclear powered, but some of them are armed with nuclear weapons and some are not. If Trump was talking about nuclear-armed submarines, that would make no sense because they can attack any target from anywhere and thus sending them nearer land would accomplish nothing. But if he was talking about moving the non-nuclear-armed subs, well, that makes no sense either because they are designed for battle at sea. Moving them closer to land would weaken their ability to accomplish their basic purpose.

Or follow this chain of events: Condensing part of what I wrote in my last posting (The Trump/Epstein Affair: Shining a Light on Predators, Aug. 1), Trump claimed throughout his 2024 presidential campaign that the Justice Department had a list of Epstein’s clients but refused to release it because it contained the names of important Democrats. Trump solemnly promised that, if he were to become president, he would release it.

And then he became president. Soon, Atty. Gen. Pam Bondi made a series of announcements in which she said Epstein files were “on my desk,” that they contained “a lot of flight logs, a lot of names, a lot of information” and “tens of thousands of videos of Epstein with children, or child pornography, and there are hundreds of victims.” Later, The Washington Post reported that Bondi had followed those statements soon afterward by privately informing Trump that his name is on the list “multiple times,” including potential instances of hearsay about him.

Trump immediately labeled the Epstein case “a hoax invented by the radical left”, and soon after that the Justice Department said the FBI had investigated and determined that there is no client list or scandalous evidence involving Epstein.

At one point, House Speaker Mike Johnson said the House “should put everything out there and let the people decide.” But after Trump called the Epstein story a hoax, Johnson adjourned the House for its summer recess a day early to prevent members from voting on a bipartisan measure calling for the administration to release all files involving Epstein. (The measure probably would have passed. Not only do all Democrats support it, but so do a significant number of Republicans.)

Another curious – telling? – thing is the chronology involving Ghislaine Maxwell. Ms. Maxwell was serving a 20-year sentence in a maximum-security Florida prison for procuring and training young girls for Epstein to seduce and use as prostitutes, so obviously she knows a lot. The House Oversight Committee invited her to testify, and she agreed to tell all if, among other things, the committee guaranteed her immunity from prosecution (which the Republican-controlled committee declined to do). But meanwhile she made it known she badly wants out of prison, so soon after Deputy Atty. Gen. Todd Blanche, one of Trump’s favorites, interviewed her, she was transferred to a minimum-security prison in Texas, a move commonly made before a person is released from prison. The transfer was highly irregular and maybe illegal because the law says such transfers must be approved by the Bureau of Prisons, and the bureau was not consulted.

Topping it off, Trump has reminded us that he has the power to commute or pardon Ms. Maxwell’s sentence and has hinted that he might. How he could do that, after what she did, should astonish us, but it doesn’t. What’s astonishing is that it isn’t astonishing. Regardless of whether Trump has seduced any young girls, does anyone honestly think his Christian morality would stand in the way?

And on it goes. Trump just announced plans to build a $20 million ballroom addition to the East Wing of the White House, even though it is not his house. He says he wants it finished by the time he leaves office. But such a building would first have to be approved by Congress, and the architects would have to take meticulous care that the ballroom is, like the rest of the White House, hardened to protect it from enemy attack, is an architectural match, etc. etc. etc. In other words, it’s not likely to happen at all, and especially not before his term expires. Still, it’s another nice detraction attempt from the Epstein files.

Bottom line: At the very least, Trump knew what Epstein was doing and didn’t lift a finger to prevent it, and therefore he must be forced out of the White House as soon as possible, long before his term is due to expire. And now that Congress, the Supreme Court and the legacy press have abandoned us, it’s up to us, We the People, to force it. We’re all that’s left between us and a United States of America bowing to a dictator, so we must do it.

And We the People can do it. We expelled a king once and we can do it again, and this time it will be easier because King George III was safely and firmly embedded in the role of king, while Trump is a pathetic wannabe king whose support is crumbling even among some of his most rabid fans. We just have to do it, and we can do it just by keeping on keeping on. If Trump is found to have done any of the things he appears to have done – and I emphasize if — what a nice gift getting rid of him would be to the hundreds of children, now adults, whose lives he and Epstein wrecked.

And remember, everything counts. I recently read of a poet – sorry, I lost her name – who said that if all you have to throw at a dictator wannabe is a handful of dirt, throw it. And if you don’t even have a handful of dirt, if all you have is the dirt under your fingernails, scrape that out and throw it.
