Feb 6 – “Coastal Challenges for South Carolina”

South Carolina is blessed with a wealth of coastal and ocean resources, which serve as the foundation for the state’s economic vitality, environmental quality, and social well-being.  DeVoe will discuss the nature of these resources and what they mean to the state, along with challenges we face with population growth, land use change, environmental concerns, threats from weather and climate, and impending uses of our coastal ocean resources. The presentation will also address offshore energy, in light of the recent conversations about wind, oil and natural gas development, and the role of marine planning at the state level.
