AWAKENING III: SOLSTICE is a collaborative arts experience that will transform the corner at Huger + Hanover Street into a vibrant mural featuring a series of installations on June 20th. SOLSTICE seeks to welcome light and illuminate darkness with joyful collaboration. AWAKENING III: SOLSTICE was born from the transformative ability to work together to create vibrant and inspiring beauty beginning at the base of Charleston’s upper peninsula and radiating up the corridor.
This project unfolds, beginning June 4-6th with Sergio Odeith, a well-known Portugese painter and muralist based in Lisbon who will create his trademark 3D graffiti as the cornerstone of the installation. Odeith will be on site installing his work – stop by and see him in action! In the two weeks following Odeith’s work, local artists will riff on his creation to finalize their own pieces to be installed for the celebration on June 20th: AWAKENING III: SOLSTICE. The remaining wall space, on each side of Odeith’s corner installation, will showcase the work of local artists for an illumination transformation of this space. The wall will serve as a backdrop for additional performance art and installations to further activate and transform the lot on Huger Street.
