Last month, the Center for Heirs Property Preservation released an informative and insightful documentary highlighting five historic African American communities here in the Lowcountry and we strongly encourage you to check it out.
Narrated by local educator, activist, and community engagement specialist, KJ Kearney, the film connects real faces and stories to the issue of heirs property which is prevalent in the Lowcountry but also impacts families and communities nation-wide.
Communities covered in the film include “the Phillips Community, Seven Mile Community, Sol Legare Community, Snowden Community and The New First Missionary Baptist Church on Edisto Island.”
