Intro into Cob & Natural Buildling: How to Build a Cob Oven

Romney St. Urban Garden (RUG) Downtown Charleston, SC
What:
RUG is an ‘urban renewal’ project. Youth leaders of New Israel Episcopal Church wished to turn this blighted dead end of Romney St. into a green, beautiful, and healthy community space. The youth leaders have worked with a mix of community and local businesses and foundations to ‘revamp’ a dead zone into an attractive and productive urban area. This 1/4 acre empty lot @ the end of Romney St. is owned by New Israel Episcopal Church & all work has been approved by The City of Charleston Building & Planning Departments.

In this 2 day workshop, participants will:
- learn the basics of Building with Cob & other Earthen Materials through the process of
- Building a Cob Oven
- This is also an Intro into Natural Building class where
- Other Alternative / Natural Building Methods will be discussed
- Information on Permitting issues and other related questions will be covered
A small library of Natural Building & Permaculture books will be provided for participant’s use during the weekend.
This is a fast-moving workshop, loaded with information, and learned in an outdoor classroom environment; seated discussion time as well as lots of hands-on building time.
Participants will leave the workshop with the knowledge and confidence to build a Cob Oven, or a project of their own.
Most importantly, participants will leave very MUDDY & very fulfilled!
