When folks talk to us about community and economic development in South Carolina, one name inevitably comes up. Bernie Mazyck.
Bernie is the CEO of the South Carolina Association for Community & Economic Development (SCACED) and he has been doing this work, locally and across the state, for decades.
SCACED is “a coalition of individuals and organizations who support the development of healthy and economically sustainable communities throughout South Carolina. Our members work collaboratively to build wealth and create economic opportunity for all SC residents, and many of our efforts are focused on minority communities and other groups who have been left out of the economic mainstream.”
We were delighted to see that award-winning community journalist, Quintin Washington, recently interviewed Bernie to discuss a range of issues on the topic, including the driving need behind the collaborative Opportunity Center now under development in North Charleston.
This conversation is really a #mustsee for anyone interested in the roots of economic inequities in the Lowcountry and how we can collectively improve our communities, for everyone.
