We will screen an excerpt from our work-in-progress and invite members of the audience to be part of a community discussion about what it’ll take for us to become more united as a community and a country.
The Story of America is a web series and a feature film project about the racial and political divide in America in the Obama era.
We began our journey in November 2012 in northern Virginia posing the question: why are we so divided as a nation and how can we become more united?
Filmmakers, Annabel Park and Eric Byler, spent nearly three years in the South on a political, historical, and personal journey trying to talk to their fellow Americans about what divides us. They spent much of their time in Selma, AL documenting the divide between the black and white communities and in North Carolina documenting the birth of the Moral Monday movement led by Rev. William J. Barber, II, President of NC NAACP. Recently, they have been documenting in SC, the debates surrounding the Confederate flag and history in the aftermath of the massacre at Mother Emanuel AME Church.
