Charleston Days of Grace: Love’s Work is Justice

Labor Day in Charleston, 2015

Thousands of folks are expected to participate in Charleston’s Days of Grace March, Rally & Conference, which is set for Labor Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Sept 5th & 6th.

Now is the time to support this historic event.

1. FUNDS URGENTLY NEEDED

Together, we will make history in Charleston, SC on September 5 & 6 — but we need your help to do it.

With just weeks until the Days of Grace mass march and conference, people from throughout the South and elsewhere around the country are busy making plans to mobilize to Charleston.

The steering committee on the ground has had its hands full putting the nuts and bolts of the gathering together, doing outreach in neighborhoods across the city, securing conference space, and so many other tasks. Everyday we receive calls from people across the city who want to help.

A gathering of this scale also comes with many costs. We need to get stages for the march, a sound system, run off copies of the flier for outreach, print signs and banners for the march, purchase food for the conference, and much more.

Can you or your organization make an urgently needed donation of $10, $25, $50, or $100 or more today?

There are a number of tasks that need to be completed in preparation for the March & Conference over the next 2½ weeks before Labor Day weekend, as well as other tasks that must be done during the March and Conference on Sept 5th & 6th.

Septima Clark, a Charleston public school teacher and civil rights freedom fighter who fought for mass public education of Black people and led the Southern Christian Leadership Conference’s popular education efforts

The Charleston 5 // ILA Local 1422 picketed a company that attempted to use nonunion labor to unload its cargo, which was subsequently attacked by police and resulted in 5 union members receiving charges; an international movement to free the Charleston 5 and highlight the unjust treatment of Black workers in the South led to victory
