The Chicora-Cherokee community in North Charleston, SC will soon receive a fully funded playground that brings fitness and fun to neighborhood youth thanks to the generosity of Select Health of SC and the AmeriHealth Caritas Partnership.
On Friday, November 22, these two organizations will install the playground on City of North Charleston property where the Chicora Place Community Garden currently resides. The neighborhood will benefit from a safe and welcoming social space that also happens to produce a variety of fruit, vegetables and herbs year round. In addition to the youth playground,we also have the opportunity to add outdoor fitness equipment for teens and adults.
On Saturday, August 31st Chicora Place Community Garden will host an event and sell dinners and host local bands to help raise some of the $17,000 needed to make our outdoor gym a reality.
The proposed outdoor gym includes the following 8 pieces of equipment:
· Curved balance beam
· Sit-up Station
· Joint Use Chin-up Station
· Seated Chest Press
· Rowing Machine
· Seated Leg Press
· Elliptical Trainer
· Double Cardio Walker
In a community plagued with chronic health issues, this fitness equipment will transform unused space around our garden into a stunning new community fitness hub where fitness and fresh, healthy food are easily accessible. To realize this dream, your financial support is vital.
