VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
- VOLUNTEER with the Avian Conservation Center and The Center for Birds of Prey
- As we go into our busy summer and spring season, we are in need of more Guest Services Volunteers on the team! We ask for a weekly commitment of a 3 – 4 hour shift and are open to the public Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Typical shift times would be 9 AM to 1 PM, 1 Pm to 4 PM as we have morning and afternoon flight demonstrations. Shift times can be flexible to a degree. We also ask that our volunteers attend a Quarterly Training session and participate in one Adopt-a-Highway event each year.Tasks include checking in pre-purchased ticket holders, selling tickets, and managing and selling merchandise. You will be able to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with visitors, school groups and community organizations. You will also have the opportunity to participate in continuing education programs about our collection and exhibits. We encourage you to take advantage of every opportunity.

- VOLUNTEER with the IOP CLEANUP CREW
- We are transitioning to a weekly schedule of Monday night litter sweeps in summer from 6-7 pm, June 1 through Labor Day.
- We plan to start a NEW set of litter sweeps every Thursday night in July, the month that the beach and parking areas tend to be the busiest and most polluted. These will also be 6-7 pm.
- We do NOT plan to revive our Wednesday Breakfast Club litter sweeps. While we love our early birds, we know our evening events consistently draw much bigger turnouts.
- From October through February, we will have litter sweeps on the second Monday of each month from 4:30-5:30 pm.
Details- No registration required – come when you can.
- Meet at the 1100 block of Ocean Boulevard beach access.
- We have all the supplies you need.
- Welcome talks will be in front of the building with the IOP postcard mural.
- Otherwise, sign in and grab supplies at our usual nook by Coconut Joe’s.
- Ask for a magnet for free parking in city lots during sweeps.
- Clean for at least 30 minutes.
- Enjoy a discount at a participating IOP restaurant after volunteering.
- We happily sign for student volunteer hours.

- Vols needed for abused, neglected kids: The Cass Elias McCarter Guardian ad Litem Program, a division of the South Carolina Department of Children’s Advocacy is offering FREE ONLINE TRAINING to those interested in becoming a volunteer Guardian ad Litem (GAL) in Charleston County. Volunteers advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children who are involved in Family Court legal proceedings through the Department of Social Services (DSS).
- Mujeres Latinas de Carolina del Sur is a nonprofit community organization led by and for Latina women. We focus on environmental education, wildlife protection, and promoting civic engagement among under-served communities in the Charleston area. Our mission is to inspire action through community-based projects such as park and beach cleanups, educational workshops, wildlife care awareness, and support for responsible pet ownership. We are always looking for compassionate, motivated volunteers who want to protect our planet and make a positive impact in our neighborhoods.
