“I like a lot of unusual things, things not easily found in stores and if they can be found, cost more than I’m willing to spend. At that point it almost becomes a challenge or a game with me to figure out how to make something or how to recreate it. I find myself making all sorts of things from buttons, to yarn hair wigs to tool box covers to reupholstering motorcycle seats to whole sectionals, shower curtains, bedding ensembles to puppy clothes. If I can think of a way to make it, I’m game to try to bring it to fruition. “necessity is the mother of creation”. . .I find myself having an abundance of ‘necessities’. Lol!”
Given her positive creative philosophy, Mrs. Kincaid was exactly the person that my teenaged fashionista needed as a mentor. Busy parents know how tough it is to get teenaged girls to be expressive about anything other than food, clothes and the latest vampire novel turned into film.
In the few short hours that they spent together, the two traveled to a thrift shop to pick out a shirt my daughter liked, took it back to Donna’s ‘workshop’ for dis-assembly, made a pattern and started creating a new shirt. When I arrived to pick her up, I started chatting and was ready to pull up a seat with all the ‘work smart, not hard’ pointers she showered over her student.
