Free community film screenings are provided monthly (Sept-May) by the Greater Park Circle Film Society and Community Cinema Charleston.
The monthly films, which are previews of upcoming PBS Independent Lens films, feature a panel discussion of the film and promise to “connect the audience with organizations, resources, and opportunities to get involved in some of today’s key social issues.”
Soul Food Junkies examines the soul food tradition and its role in black cultural identity while also addressing the socioeconomic conditions which often create obstacles to healthy food options.
Of equal importance is the film’s focus on the growing food justice movement.
This is a really exciting opportunity for us locally. In a variety of ways, we are all part of an evolving movement toward a more sustainable way of life and food justice is a crucial component of that movement.
