ResilientAmerica, a part of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) works with public and private community stakeholders to better understand the risks which exist in that specific community. As part of this process they have a pilot community program; Charleston County serves as one of four communities, each with their own set of risks. Among the highest priority risks for Charleston are natural disasters and environmental issues such as: hurricanes, flooding and storm surge. Benefits from the program include increasing the communities’ access to knowledge, providing approaches to understanding risk, as well as providing methods to build a culture of resilience within that community.

NASEM is coming to the Charleston area to
- Better understand the impacts of flooding in our community
- Identify what our community could do to build resilience to floods and
- Help residents become more prepared for future floods.
