Please Support Grassroots #CharlestonRecovery Efforts

Every time there is a disaster that impacts communities the way Charleston was impacted by #hurricanmatthew, there are people who need help, and people who want to help, but they can’t always connect with one another.

Lowcountry Alliance for Model Communities is opening it’s office up as a distribution and collection point for local neighborhoods needing recovery assistance.

And we believe LAMC can help assist communities in need effectively due to their long-standing commitment to community-building and their long-term relationships within vulnerable communities here in Charleston.

We hope you will support LAMC in their work in support of #CharlestonRecovery.

If you would like to help, we need the following: water, non-perishable food items, first aid kits, batteries, flashlights, charcoal, lighter fluid, matches, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, toothbrush, baby wipes, and toiletries.

You can drop items off at our office located at 2125 Dorchester Road, North Charleston SC 29405 starting Monday.

We also need able bodies with chain saws to assist local communities with removal of trees, and men to help patrol communities to deter break-ins.

We have established a GoFundMe page to fund the recovery efforts.

All money collected for this purpose will be used to purchase recovery items for communities that need assistance.

If you know of communities needing assistance, please email that information to LAMC at ccrabej@gmail.com

Thank you

Omar Muhammad – LAMC President

ABOUT LAMC
The Lowcountry Alliance for Model Communities (LAMC) is a 501c3 organization located in North Charleston, SC. The reason that LAMC exists is to address some of the underlining issues that tend to be perpetuated in communities, particularly communities of color, that result in generations trapped in low paying jobs, becoming renters, and live in areas steeped in blight. Our revitalization plan addresses four core areas (affordable housing, education, economics, and the environment) that primarily focus on removing barriers that continue the cycle of poverty. To that end, we seek partnerships to help us implement strategies that are outlined in our revitalization plan.

LAMC has worked in this area since 2005 and has long-standing relationship with our communities. You can find out more about our work in these communites at www.lamcnc.org. We have a reputation of making sure resources reach communities that need it the most.
