Aug 22 – Ideas Into Action: Bridging Equity

Please join us for our next IDEAS INTO ACTION discussion:
BRIDGING EQUITY
Tuesday, August 22nd, 9:30-11

CHANGE IN LOCATION:
International Longshoremen’s building
1142 Morrison Drive, 29403
We’ll convene in the large event room

The following local organizations — Charleston Moves, East Cooper Land Trust, Lowcountry Local First, Bike Law, and One80 Place — will hold a discussion about why biking and walking is an imperative part of achieving basic human rights and flourishing livability in the Charleston area.

Biking and walking are not “alternative transportation,” but in fact are vital parts of any successful transportation system. With customers on a bike or on foot, locally owned businesses prosper. With more citizens using bicycle or pedestrian means, all socioeconomic levels of our community thrive with equitable access to work, errands, and general enjoyment of life. And when our elected officials, planners, and engineers strive to provide infrastructure for multiple forms of transportation, rather than a sole focus on motorized vehicles, our community is a safer and more connected place.

GATHERING FOR GOOD:

Our goal is to raise $1500 for the Mitch Hollon Memorial Bike Safety Fund in memory of Dr. Mitch Hollon, community advocate, husband and father, who was killed while riding his bike on the James Island Connector in 2011. This Fund is reserved for implementing on-street bicycle facilities in Charleston County.
Please make note that this meeting is held the day after the Solar eclipse. You may want to give yourself additional time to get to the meeting.
