The Black Classical Artists of Louisville, under the artistic direction of BCAL’s founder, Dr. Alexander T. Simpson Jr., cordially invite you to attend their 2014 Piccolo Spoleto concert of ‘Traditional Negro Spirituals’ on Saturday, May 24th at 3:00 PM.
The BCAL concert, which will take place in the historic Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church located at 5 Glebe Street, will feature arrangements of Spirituals by Johnson, Burleigh, Hogan and Bonds . . . as well as ‘traditional’ unaccompanied arrangements.
The BCAL roster of performers for Piccolo Spoleto 2014 contains both artists quite familiar to Charlestonians and others who will be new to our Piccolo Spoleto audiences!
Founding members, Dr. Simpson, pianist (a Charleston native and the Artistic Director of BCAL) and Barry Lawrence, baritone, have performed in Charleston on innumerable occasions, including BCAL’s previous Piccolo Spoleto presentations in 2012 and 2003! Both Mario Wales, BCAL’s dancer, and Owen Sammons, BCAL’s organist, have also performed in Charleston, to great acclaim, on numerous occasions!
New to our Piccolo Spoleto audiences are baritone, Philip Morgan, (who made his Charleston debut in March of this year) and soprano, Brandi Q. Hancock, BCAL’s newest member, who makes both her Charleston and her Piccolo Spoleto debuts with our May 24th concert!
