Free Workshop: How to Photograph Your Artwork

Whether it’s for promotional print material, a website, or an application for a competition or exhibition, every artist needs good digital photographs of their artwork. Local professional photographer and filmmaker, John Barnhardt, will instruct artists on the basics for photographing artwork in this free two hour workshop. Barnhardt is an EMMY award winning cinematographer, producer, filmmaker, photographer, and educator. His photography began as a way to quickly share the  incredible moments he witnessed during filming in far-away locations. John currently works with a number of Charleston-based media firms to capture both moving and still images and is excited to share his expertise in photography with other artists. The workshop will cover a variety of techniques to capture 2D and 3D artwork, including optimizing a smartphone’s photographic capabilities, basic point and shoot camera techniques, and an overview of a professional photography shoot. The workshop will also include discussion on lighting, white balance, the use of polarizing filters, depth of field, and lens use, and end with an overview of editing to create a high resolution image.  Participants are encouraged to bring their digital camera and smartphone.
