What is a Braai?
Braai is a south African word for open fire social cooking. Southern BBQ has its origin in West African culture detailing to the Hausa word, babbke.
This event is bringing awareness to the Gullah links to the history of southern Barbecue and will feature 5 Grill Pits catered by local chefs adding their twist to an ancient style of cooking brought over by the enslaved Africans.
In celebration of the oral history of the Gullah people of the Sea Islands of the Lowcountry Charleston SC region, this Gullah Braai event is dedicated to the history of the Southern Barbecue.
