Goodie Hack is a mashup of social good, tech, entrepreneurship, and highly-skilled and passionate people. It’s, quite possibly, the coolest community service project you’ll ever experience. The Charleston edition, powered by Accelerate With Google, is an intense and fast-paced two (2) day event where the Black Googler Network AND Charleston leaders form teams to create technology ideas that solve problems in under-served communities. This is your chance to save the world, see what it’s like to be in a tech startup, and enjoy an exclusive screening of the powerful documentary 3 ½ Minutes, Ten Bullets.
In 3 ½ Minutes, Ten Bullets, two lives intersected and were forever altered. On Black Friday 2012, two cars parked next to each other at a Florida gas station. A white middle-aged male and a black teenager exchanged angry words over the volume of the music in the boy’s car. A gun entered the exchange, and one of them was left dead. Michael Dunn fired 10 bullets at a car full of unarmed teenagers and then fled. Three of those bullets hit 17-year-old Jordan Davis, who died at the scene. Arrested the next day, Dunn claimed he shot in self-defense. Thus began the long journey of unraveling the truth. 3 ½ Minutes, Ten Bulletsfollows that journey, reconstructing the night of the murder and revealing how hidden racial prejudice can result in tragedy.
Goodie Hack is an awesome way to use your unique talents to affect positive change in under-served communities. We’re looking for community and nonprofit leaders, government officials and politicians, entrepreneurs, students, artists, educators, business professionals, everyday people and more! We’ve learned that teams with people from different backgrounds come up with REALLY cool ideas.
You’ll join six other people on a team that comes up with an idea for a web or mobile app that helps your solves a serious community problem. You’ll actually see your ideas come to life, and make a difference in the community. How cool is that?!?!
