In celebration of the Center’s 15th anniversary – and the 35th anniversary of the Aspen Institute Community Strategies Group, which helped spark the Center’s start-up – we invite you to learn about the role of land in wealth inequality, about heirs’ property and fractionated land, and about strategies and policies that can address this issue to build rural regions and urban communities that are more inclusive and resilient!
These infographics shed light on what research data says is needed for real social change to happen.
Here is a great opportunity for purpose-driven artists using their talents to make our communities better.
“While some statistics are kept by law enforcement agencies, the numbers often don’t include the everyday reality for people of color. Racialized people have a long history of being targeted by authorities and may not feel safe reporting to police; police could be the group causing the harm, there can also be language barriers and, even if reported, not all incidents will meet the threshold for a crime. But increasingly, grassroots organizations across North America are collecting data in that gray zone. That data is now becoming a crucial part of shaping solutions, supporting advocacy, changing laws and strengthening allyship.”
The theme for this month is’Inequality. Our surprise guest speaker will share with us how they address issues, such as environmental and racial justice, throughout the Lowcountry, while also highlighting for us the complex dynamics that lead to homelessness within our community, and how you can get more involved.

“Black nonprofits should not bear the sole responsibility of addressing racial inequity, but governments, corporations and the philanthropic sector don’t always know how best to address the systemic inequity Black communities face. The Foundation will bridge this gap by investing in and gathering knowledge from Black nonprofits and making this knowledge available to those in power, all while fiercely protecting the interests of Black nonprofits and Black communities.”
