Celebrate & Support Fresh Future Farm!

Germaine has received lots of kudos along the way, including Charleston Magazine’s Community Catalyst Award and Slow Food Charleston’s SnailBlazer Award. But she needs more than awards to best serve her community!

She did it. Germaine Jenkins, that is. And her friends.

Two years after launching her multi-faceted urban farm to provide access to healthy food in one of our local “food deserts,” Germaine and Fresh Future Farm are ready to open their farm store, and turn a visionary dream into an inspiring reality.

“On Tuesday, May 3, Fresh Future Farm will open the first mini-market with lots of healthy meal options that haven’t been available to the Chicora-Cherokee community since Winn-Dixie closed in 2005. Our mini retail store sits on a .81 acre permaculture farm right in the middle of a residential neighborhood so residents can walk to get good food (reducing expenses again). We will SELL – not give away – food at affordable prices.”

This last point is an important one. From the beginning, FFF has strived to become a self-sustaining nonprofit organization. Diverse revenue streams will allow FFF to focus on providing its essential services to the community rather than endlessly chasing grant money.

It’s also important to note that we are talking future tense.

Fresh Future Farm is not self-sustaining yet.

This is where you come in.

It took a village to build this coop! Learn more about the great work being done at FreshFutureFarm.org

Germaine didn’t accomplish this all on her own.

She recruited wonderful board members and community advocates, made vital collaborative connections with diverse supporters ranging from local chefs to corporations to colleges, engaged hundreds of hands-on volunteers, and enlisted family and neighbors from Chicora Cherokee community over the course of this tenacious endeavor.

Now she needs your help to take FFF to the next level.

Will you support Fresh Future Farm, Germaine, and the folks of Chicora Cherokee as they transform Fresh Future Farm in to a self-sustaining farm, grocery, educational center and economic engine for the community?

We hope you will!
