Filmmakers Successfully crowd-source documentary about Charleston’s controversial traffic problem!
On June 20, 2016 Filmmakers, Lunch and Recess, successfully completed a $10,000 Kickstarter campaign for their feature documentary, “Backpedal,” directed by Ryan Cockrell. After two years of shooting, the film is near completion and covers topics on walking and bicycling in Charleston like the controversial Ashley River Bridge bicycle lane.
Background:The feature film Backpedal is a 70-minute documentary about the history of Charleston’s “bikeability” and “walkability” and its unwillingness to create safe infrastructure for anything but automobiles. Featured subjects include Charleston City Council members Mike Seekings and Marvin Wagner, as well as former DC and Chicago transportation director Gabe Klein, SC Infrastructure Bank Board Chair, Vincent Graham, former Planning director of Charleston, Tim Keane and current Planning Director, Jacob Lindsey.
Lunch and Recess recently won the 2016 People’s Grit at Indie Grits Film Festival for their prior feature documentary, The Color of Fire, directed by Dorian Warneck.
