Enough Pie’s “SOUND + LIGHT” Takes Community Art to a Whole New Level

Sometimes called the warehouse district, the Upper Peninsula (north of Huger & east of I-26) is home to over 80 warehouses. Enough Pie and BoomTown will activate UP’s most well-known warehouse, 1505 King Street Extension (former set of Army Wives), for the five-day installation, SOUND + LIGHT.Previewing on Tuesday, October 27and running through the Day of the Dead (Sunday, November 1), Southern artist and ArtFields 2014 winner Craig Colorusso will install five pieces of work spanning over a decade of his career for the first time ever under one roof. SOUND + LIGHT creates an immersive and sensory experience over the week of Halloween that merges sound, light, shadow and darkness in a contemplative experience in an 80,000+ square foot warehouse space.“Inviting our community to experience a warehouse in the Upper Peninsula throughSOUND + LIGHT is Enough Pie’s biggest undertaking to date. We are always seeking to cultivate ways to use creativity to inspire possibility and awe. The experience of the magnitude of this warehouse space and the sensory nature of this installation will be unforgettable,” said Cathryn Zommer, Executive Director of Enough Pie.

The warehouse at 1505 King is a cavernous space that will be almost completely dark except for the light from the installations, which include three sculptural pieces – CUBEMUSIC, MB 89 and Moonphases – as well as a short documentary of the work titled INSTALL that will run on a loop. Guests begin their journey at Enough Pie’s Upper Peninsula Pop-Up Visitor’s Center, where they experience Colorusso’s outdoor piece, SUN BOXES, which won ArtFields 2014 and was a popular part of Enough Pie’sAwakening III: SOLSTICE. The solar powered speakers are powered by sunlight for a melodic chord of B-flat to greet guests and set the tone for the experience.

“This is the first time all my pieces have come together under one roof. It spans over a decade of my work, and it is such an honor to be part of activating this warehouse,” adds artist Craig Colorusso.

SOUND + LIGHT premieres  on this one night at the only paid “pay-it-forward” fundraiser for event. Local artists including A Temple Production, Charleston Guild of Gentleman Puppeteers, Charleston Annex Dance Company, Charleston Characters Dance Company, Lowcountry Highrollers with music by The Soul Preservation Society of Charleston.Food and drink will be provided by Enough Pie friends including The Workshop, Tattooed Moose, Roadside Seafood, seasonal beers from Edmund’s Oast, wines from Spanish Vines and Country Vintner of SC, Lowcountry Creamery and more. Local 616 will have pop-up bars and everyone is invited to enjoy a slice of pie at Enough Pie’s Pie Shop!
