About the Charleston Friends of the Library

The Charleston Friends of the Library, a non-profit volunteer organization, raises money through book sales to help fund Library services, equipment, training, materials and public programming. The Charleston Friends of the Library fund over 6,000 programs, classes, and events each year.  The Friends collect and sort donated books for resale to raise money. Donated books from this year’s “Books for Beer” event are in turn sold at one of the five book sales held throughout the year by the Friends.

About National Library Week

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries – school, public, academic and special – participate.
