Local activist and author Marlvis “Butch” Kennedy recently released his latest book, A Man like Me: My Journey to Manhood…And the Mistakes I Made Along the Way, because of his concern for the messages boys are receiving about the nature of manhood.
Struggling to live up to unrealistic and often unhealthy expectations does young men a disservice.
“All throughout my life I failed trying to live up to those expectations of manhood. I became the man that I am today because of the mistakes I made in my past.”
Kennedy, who is the founder of Real Men Against Domestic Violence (REALMAD) hopes that his book will help young men respect women and be part of a movement to end violence against women in our society.
“During my journey I learned of the strength and courage that women possess and became an advocate to reduce violence against them.”
