The Center for Biological Diversity’s ‘Simplify the Holidays’ program comes at a very opportune time.
The project has two prongs: alternative gifts and alternative celebrations.
- Their Gift Guide offers way to give “meaningful, wildlife-friendly alternatives that don’t harm the planet. And often these alternatives are more memorable, unique and economical than mass-produced items found in big box stores.”
- Their Alternative Traditions guide offers alternative ideas for trying simpler entertaining and gift exchanges during the holidays. The shared goal is more simplicity and sustainability, and less stress.
“Aligned with our mission of saving life on Earth and our belief in the interconnectedness of human life with nature, Simplify the Holidays seeks to empower individuals and families to be more conscious of the impacts of holiday traditions, and in doing so, reconnect with meaningful and lasting celebrations.”
The program also offers some useful statistics on spending, waste, and holiday spirit, just in case you need a little extra inspiration.
