NORTH CHARLESTON, South Carolina (December 18, 2013) The Boeing Company has awarded Charleston Promise Neighborhood (CPN) an additional grant based on the substantial progress made in CPN’s programs in the four high-poverty elementary and one middle school that are supported by CPN. Specifically, one of the elementary schools and the middle school improved their South Carolina Department of Education (DOE) Absolute Rankings in the 2012-2013 school year, while two of the elementary schools and the middle school improved their Absolute Ranking during the 2011-2012 school year. The back-to-back improvements in Absolute Ranking by Sanders-Clyde Middle School are particularly noteworthy.

CPN provides programs that directly benefit 1700 students’ academic performance and health and wellness. CPN also offers professional development for nearly 200 teachers and principals through a public/private arrangement with the Charleston County School District (CCSD). CCSD recently established the Charleston Promise Neighborhood Learning Community (CPNLC) to facilitate the establishment of more far-reaching supports for students and their educators during this academic year. CPN implements evidence-based programs in partnership with other nonprofit organizations in an effort to achieve aggressive academic and social goals without duplicating existing capabilities. Boeing’s gift to CPN provides resources for teachers, students, and principals in four neighborhood schools.
