Local Foodjustice Activist Launches Fall Farmraising Campaign!

In case you haven’t heard the wonderful news, our buddy and community partner, Germaine Jenkins of Fresh Future Farm, recently won Charleston Magazine’s 2015 Community Catalyst Award for her inspiring work turning a vacant lot into an operating urban farm that is providing affordable access to fresh and healthy food in one of our local “food deserts.”

Fresh Future Farm opened it’s weekly farm stand earlier this month and is very close to being able to open it’s farm store.

Knowing winter is just around the corner, Germaine has launched a Fall Farmraising Campaign.

“Right now customers can only buy fruit, vegetable and herbs once a week. We are in our final push to finish renovations on the building to expand our offerings to include dry and canned goods, frozen vegetables, bread, dairy, cereal and eggs at least five days a week.”

Will you help Charleston’s  raise the $5000 needed
to move customers out of the elements and into the store before winter sets in?

ABOUT FRESH FUTURE FARM

Fresh Future Farm is a nonprofit urban farm response to addressing food, health, economic, and environmental disparities in southern portion of North Charleston, SC. We revitalize vacant city land to grow organic produce, sell SNAP eligible grocery products, raise livestock, and create a sense of pride by highlighting the connection between food history and ancestry in a manner that creates community and job opportunities for the people living in Charleston Heights. We’re singing (badly) and working our fingers to the bone to get the farm and store open to the public as soon as possible. In the meantime, we are operating a fresh food farm stand on our site.

Our Macon Market Farm Stand is open to the public and accepts SNAP (food stamp) benefits, cash and credit purchases on Tuesday afternoons from 3 – 6 pm. Fresh Future Farm is also partnering with the Chicora-Cherokee Neighborhood Association to offer $10 Fresh Future Buck credits to residents who volunteer for two hours in the community.
