Celebrate New Wi-Fi Network with Lunch
and Wireless Workday in the Park
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Ditch your desk, cut out of your cubicle and join the Charleston Parks Conservancy to celebrate the addition of a Wi-Fi network in four more city parks. Get Connected: Wireless Workday in the Park will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 in Hampton Park (lagoon parking area). Food trucks Ted’s Butcherblock, Zombie Bob’s Pizza and Auto-Bahn plus King of Pops will be on site so you can purchase lunch and then spend the afternoon working wirelessly in the park.
Thanks to a $30,000 donation from the Speedwell Foundation, the Charleston Parks Conservancy worked with the Charleston Digital Corridor to add wireless access to Hampton Park, Corrine Jones Park, Magnolia Park and Community Garden and Mitchell Playground. Wi-Fi is already available in Waterfront Park and Marion Square thanks to the Charleston Digital Corridor and Google.
Get Connected: Wireless Workday in the Park is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. At noon, Mayor Joe Riley, Jenny and Mike Messner from the Speedwell Foundation, Charleston Parks Conservancy Executive Director Harry Lesesne, and Ernest Andrade, founder and director of the Charleston Digital Corridor will make a presentation and conduct a ceremonial cutting of the Internet cord.
The Charleston Parks Conservancy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting people to their parks and in turn increasing the quality, awareness, appreciation and usage of Charleston’s parks and green spaces. The Conservancy opens doors to individuals and communities in Charleston wanting to engage with their parks and green spaces in a kaleidoscope of positive ways. With the help of its Park Angels volunteer force, the Conservancy seeks to rally community support and pride behind the effort to create a lasting movement.
