Oct 15: Bikes for the World Donation Day!

Saturday, October 15th

Carolina Youth Development Center and Sow Seasonal Urban Farm will be sponsoring a bike collection to help Bikes for the World reach their goal!

BFW is a non-profit organization that works to improve access to affordable transportation and promote sustainable development abroad through donating containers of second-hand bicycles and bicycle parts to select organizations throughout the Global South, mostly Africa, Central America, and the South Pacific.

Bikes for the World accepts bikes, bike parts (including tubes, tires, wheels, chains, pedals, saddles, cables, and mountain bike handlebars), accessories (including helmets, pumps, locks, gloves, chains, bicycle books and manuals, and hand tools including general tools such as wrenches and screw drivers, as well as specialized bike tools) and portable sewing machines!

The volunteers from the CYDC will collect the bikes and issue receipts. The volunteers will learn how to remove pedals and tie them to the frame, turn handlebars, lower seats, and remove baskets. The bikes are then ready for efficient handling and eventual shipping. Then, the volunteers will have the opportunity of owning one of their own bikes!

Each bicycle donor is asked to contribute a minimum $10 to defray shipping costs.
