Oct 16 – “Fruitvale Station” Opens Discussion on Contemporary Race Issues

The African American Studies program at CofC will be screening “Fruitvale Station” a film documenting the final day of Oscar Grant’s life before he was fatally shot by a police officer at a BART station. We will use the film as a base for discussions on current events such as the murder of Michael Brown and subsequent protests in Ferguson. 

We have also compiled a list of resources on our #BlackLivesMatter page which we find useful for hosting these types of discussions with students which can be found at: blacklivesmatter-resource-page. If there are articles, books, documentaries, etc. you have find compelling/useful/illuminating, please pass them along. We are happy to add to our list.
