First we were struck by Ment Nelson’s illustrations. We’ll let them speak for themselves. But then we learned more about him from an article in the City Paper, and the SC ETV video clip below and felt compelled to do our part to make sure you knew his name and had access to his prints online.
Like Ment, we believe that “If enough people sit on one side of the seesaw, we can tilt it.” We hope you’ll take a few minutes to learn more about Ment if you haven’t already, and help support his work.
[EVENT] [GOOD CREDIT] PLEASE SHARE:Ment Nelson is all about purpose. His first art collection features scenes of the rural Lowcountry. The illustrations are simple and as Charleston City Paper describes it, “with an unusual degree of warmth and familiarity.” He drawings are pen-and-ink line, which he then brings to life by digitizing and adding color.
His hope is that the collection will stir up curiosity and create an educational opportunity to bring awareness of the Gullah culture to a younger crowd.
