Charleston Black Theatre’s founder & Executive Producer, Yvonne Broaddus, in conjunction with St. John’s High School headed by newly appointed principal, Stephen Larson are working together with a coalition of Charleston’s highest quality of local performers, artists, musicians, dancers and singers to begin the school year with “Walking In Their Shoes Festival of the Arts”.
On September 8, 2017, students will be given a day of creative workshops offered by Ann Caldwell (vocals), Jessie Thrower and Queen Atterberry (Wo’se Adande African Drumer & Dance Co.), Corina Fimian (Ballet Academy of Charleston), Sharon Cooper-Murray (traditional rag quilter and storyteller), Lee Jones and Jonathan Woodard (“Music for Life” guitar instructors), Christopher Johnson (artist), Karole Turner Campbell (artist & drama coach), Manny Houston (musician and MC), and Christine Washington (poet).
The purpose of “Walking In Their Shoes Festival of the Arts” is to expose the students to the world of art expression, build their self-confidence and find their passions. The students will be allowed to choose the art forms that personally appeal to them and attend those workshops.
